The BMW Company began over 100 years ago in Munich, Germany. The name comes from a German abbreviation for Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, or Bavarian Motor Works. They are a world renowned company that constructs lavish cars and SUVs to provide complete driving satisfaction.

Originally, BMW built aircraft, and their present-day logo reflects the company's history with its blue-and-white color design that signifies white propeller blades against a blue sky. Moreover, the color choice is to honor the flag of Bavaria.

The company shifted gears in 1928 and began building their now legendary automobiles. The first car was name the Dixi and was a popular choice for early automobile buyers. BMW lasted through the Depression and constructed the Type 328 roadster, which was abundantly purchased before World War II. The roadster was a sinuous two-seater that achieved more than 120 wins on the motorsport circuit from 1936 to 1940. The car company was just as successful after the war and won various races, rally competitions and hill climbing challenges.

The 1950s brought the BMW 501, which was a spacious and comfortable sedan featuring every luxury that the 50s could provide. The next model was the 502 and with its release the world was introduced to the first light-alloy V8. This was a development that solidified BMW's intent to offer consumers the newest and best technology.

The company released the Isetta next, which was a small two-seater that sported a 12- or 13- horsepower engine. This model was the highest-selling BMW during the 1950s. Later in the decade, the company began reducing their production, but released the 507, a striking and unique sports car. The 507 utilized an alloy body with an earlier model's V8 for thrust.

BMW's sales continued to grow in the 1960s and when the company released the 1500, a family sports sedan, profits increased significantly. The 1970s were good years for BMW with state-of-the-art advances such as turbocharging and electronic devices in their vehicles. Furthermore, the company found buyers in North America during this decade and was able to institute itself as an experienced car manufacturer.

North American buyers were pleased to own indulgent sports cars that were supreme driving machines. Additionally, BMW owners often purchased newer models becoming loyal to the manufacturer. The 70s also saw the birth of their three-tier model's including the 3 Series, 5 Series and the 7 Series. This decade also brought the introduction of the M division.

The later years of the 90s were growing years for BMW and the company stretched their marketing to other areas in the world by building a manufacturing plant in North America. Also, the company increased in size by adding other brands such as Rolls-Royce and Mini.
